Sara Windschitl
Metro Deaf School 1st grade teacher
St Paul
Sara is a first grade teacher in her 13th year at Metro Deaf School, a charter school in St. Paul that serves Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in grades pre-k through 12 from all over the metro area. Her technology focus over the years has been finding ways to adapt curriculum for ASL users via video and other visual modalities, and to also empower her students with visual technology tools that allow them to share their knowledge and ideas in their own language. She believes all young learners can benefit from using technology to show the world what they know, but for for young Deaf students learning English as a second language, it is even more critical to harness the power of video creation, editing and publishing as a visual expression of their learning.
Sara has presented her visual learning ideas at TIES, state-wide special education conferences and national D/HH conferences.
