Shannon Lawson

My name is Shannon Lawson. I am the teacher responsible for gifted and talented and math intervention instruction and programming, as well as coordinating Odyssey of the Mind, Continental Math, National Geographic Bee and our Spelling Bee at Somerset.

In 1999 I graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Elementary Education and certificate in Reading. I have Masters in Education from Hamline University and did my capstone research on technology integration in elementary schools.

I spent a few years teaching in Iowa City, Iowa and then in 2003 moved to Saint Paul and began teaching at Somerset. I have taught 3rd-6th grade but the majority of my teaching career was teaching first grade before switching to teaching as a specialist.

I am married and have two children, Layla and Lennon, who attend Somerset. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing games, reading, and roller blading. Another hat I wear is leading a neighborhood initiative called the Payne Phalen Pocket Park project. This project is working towards beautifying my neighborhood in East Saint Paul.
